Our counsellors

The most important factor in the quality of counselling is the calibre of the counsellors.

Stratos will only engage individual counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists, rather than practices or other agencies, in order to ensure that we retain control over the quality of the counsellors.

Our criteria for the engagement of counsellors include:

·         A relevant tertiary qualification

·         Membership of NZAC or a registered psychologist or registered psychotherapist

·         At least six years’ counselling experience

·         Professional indemnity insurance

·         Regular professional supervision

·         Suitable counselling rooms

·         Ability to deal with a range of presenting issues

·         Comfort with short term counselling

All counsellors are interviewed and reference checked by the Managing Director and/or Counselling Services Co-ordinator of Stratos before they are accepted into the network.  The interview is a formal process and is conducted in the counsellor’s rooms.

We have effective processes in place to monitor registration and membership of relevant professional bodies.

We expect counsellors to have a personal professional development programme which will include an ongoing commitment to professional training, workshops and conferences, and to receive regular supervision from a competent counselling professional.
